I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the oneshot where, although Rachel is very talented at singing, what she really wants to do is play the cello. I think TMF only posted it on her Tumblr, and it's definitely one of those fics I wish I had grabbed while I had the chance.
Putting this out there because:
A) I want to help this person out, as is the function of this blog.
B) Now that I know it exists, I want to read this story.
I remember "A wrinkle in time" was mentioned in TSS (scene between Quinn and Beth towards the end) and it seems tmf was reading a book a month and commenting from time to time on her tumblr; two that I remember: "IQ84" and "Super sad true love story". If I can think of anything else, I'll come back. :)
I was wondering if you (or anyone else) would know some books that TMF read and talked about it on her tumblr or maybe even mentioned on her fanfics? Because I've just finished reading Kafka on the shore (mentioned in these strange steps) and is marvelous. So I wanted other recommendations. Thank you very much!
OH MAN. I don’t know. She recommended books a lot, and I always meant to go back at look at those myself!
I've been trying to download the mating game but the site provided isn't letting me download it properly. Is there any other way to get this story or another link? Thanks! And thanks for all your hard work!
Okay. I double-checked the link, and you are right. I got the link from Natyxg, so the next step would be to message them about it…but their askbox isn’t open, so that’s rather difficult.
Here’s hoping they see this and repost the link or sends me the pdf at firstname.lastname@example.org so I can put it in the dropbox. Otherwise, I don’t know how to fix this, and that makes me really sad.
And you are welcome, but I hardly consider this work—it’s really fun. Thank you for following!
So I was enjoying a lovely dinner with a friend of mine a week or so ago, and somehow Fifty Shades of Grey came up. My friend told me that she planned to read it out of curiosity for the BDSM elements.
I was horrified. I mean, really? I had seen excerpts. I knew how bad it was. But I couldn’t fault her for being curious. Still, the idea that she was going to subject herself to such a novel…
Several days later, I sent her a link to TSS because at least I could be sure she was reading something with a good plot.
She’s reading it now, so I think the crisis has been averted.
Hi! One of TMF's last recs was All The Noise Died Away by only_because3. It was a zombie fic, mostly gen with a lot of side pairings including quick, puckurt, faberry, brittana, finchel, etc. the link is here archiveofourown. org/works/380354
I remember her reccing this! It sounded so interesting. I added it to the Suggestions page and the link is here too. Man, I love a good zombie fic.
Personal answers to questions raised earlier: Only fandomsTMF wrote for. Aaaand... completed only? Also, she wasn't angsty all the time lol just a lot. So, just personally, anything with great characterization and engaging story.
So just Glee and Skins, but basically just Glee because I don’t know anything about Skins. (It’s on my To Watch list though.) And just completed works. Okay.
Does this sound agreeable to everyone else? (Come on, man, there are 44 of you lol)
hi! so it seems some people have things saved that were only ever posted to tumblr, and i was wondering: does anyone have the ecfc prompt fill about santana and rachel first living together? i requested it, you would think i would have saved it, but nope :(
You requested it?! How tragic! I remember this post too…it wasn’t too long ago.
Just a thought for everyone ... be careful in your word choice of wanting vs. wishing for things from authors. "Wanting" can come off as entitled complaining (eg. I WANT a sequel; I WANT you to write more-- meaning, I AM NOT SATISFIED with what you've already given me), which gives zero positive feedback to the author, and instead adds extra stress.
This is very true, and it’s this type of attitude of insatiable want that probably contributed in part to the current situation we are all in (TMF discontinuing all her fandom interaction). And if it were any other situation, I would not want to somehow convey the idea that I am unsatisfied, when in fact, I have nothing but gratitude for any author’s work.
However, in TMF’s case in particular, it has been made quite clear that she is finished with fandom works. She will not write more. End of story. So when I say that I want her to finish AoCC and I want the sequel, it is quite similar to me saying that I want a seventh season of Xena: Warrior Princess and a feature length movie. That is to say, I know it’s not going to happen, and I only want these things because I value what I’ve already been given so much.
But again, Anon, I do agree with you. It is important for every fic author to know that they are appreciated. Any fic you’ve ever loved was written because someone was selfless enough to commit it to paper—probably overcoming personal insecurities along the way. Therefore, the least a reader can do is let the author know that what they’ve written has been enjoyedand that however much they choose to write is enough.
Or you could be like me and make an appreciation blog in their honor. Just saying.
So I didn't know there was a preview to the AoCC sequel. And now I just read it. And my heart hurt cuz I really really want the whole thing. And all of AoCC finished. My fanfic life is seriously not complete without those.
I know, it’s really horrible, isn’t it?
I want AoCC and I want the sequel more than I think appropriate given that it’s fanfiction. But it’s like TMF’s works are like perfect Glee—and when I say Glee, I mean Glee characters. Not because everything is unicorns and rainbows, but because everything makes sense.
That is a good point, but I think maybe Rachel dislikes asparagus because, well, she IS a vegan, and with so many vegetables on earth, surely there's one she doesn't like? Even people who love meat (like me) have certain meats that just aren't appealing to them. I, for one, do not like ham. It's tolerable, sometimes, but most times (especially when it's cold) I would prefer to eat something else.
This is a very valid point.
I suppose the antagonist in Fuck Asparagus: The Musical would have to adore asparagus above all other vegetables.
i personally do not like asparagus. i used to, when i was a kid, because my mom told me they were trees. but i think that quinn and rachel dislike asparagus because it's nasty and it has nothing on artichoke!!
While I agree that artichokes are amazing, I am also a huge fan of asparagus. I suppose I find it odd that Rachel would dislike any vegetable because of her vegan lifestyle. I mean, of course, vegans can like and dislike whatever they want, but generally all vegetables are welcomed with open arms.
oh. my. GOD you would not believe how hard i've been searching for the mating game and AoCC. i'm one of those people that will torture themselves and not read anything until it's completed, and i reeeeeeally reeeeeeally wanted to read those, and then they got deleted and i was all WHY GOD WHY. so, really, thank you. I applaud you, flawless human being.
D’aww, thank you.
Although, I shouldn’t take very much credit. I haven’t supplied any of the download links personally. I just put them on this blog and hope that other people find them.
I just wanted to say: thank you SO MUCH for creating this tumblr. I never caught up on the AoCC update (because I knew if I started it and she never finished the story, I would cry for 2 days straight like I did the first time she cancelled it). However, once it was actually gone, I could only lament that I'd never be able to read what she added. I look forward to reading the update and sobbing that I'll never see the end. (Besides, flailing over TMF is one of my favorite internet activities. :D
You are SO VERY welcome. I was in the exact same position as you were with AoCC, so when it disappeared I was so mad at myself for not keeping up with the updates. It was a tragedy.
One plus is that at least now you will have somewhere to go with all of your feels when you do read all there is. And you know you can flail over TMF as much as you want because that’s pretty much all this blog is about. :)
This is is just awesome. I never thought this blog would get more than a few followers, and yet it’s still growing!
In light of this recent surge, I’m going to take a moment to thank all of you lovely followers—whether if it’s for contributing links or adding to discussion or just plain following this blog because that is motivation enough to keep trying to find ways to make the site better and to reach out to ALL the TMF fans.
I suppose my first order of business is compiling a fic rec since that page is still basically completely undeveloped.
But really, you guys, being a part of this is a real joy. And you should know:
Would you mind telling us what exactly are the missing TMF works? I may have a lot of files from the author, but they may be the ones that are still available on archiveofourown. thanks! awesome tumblr, btw.
Well, as far as I know, the only things TMF deleted were things she never intended on finishing, so that consists of The Mating Game (Part 11 of ECFC), Assured of Certain Certainties, Greet Death, A Thousand Julys (Sequel to IBTTRY) and that Quinntana story she was messing around with.
We have links posted for The Mating Game and AoCC (up to Chapter 64), so now we are only missing Greet Death, A Thousand Julys, and the Quinntana story. Truth be told, however, I’m pretty resigned to never finding A Thousand Julys because that was deleted more than a year ago. I would be really surprised if anyone has that. It should also be noted that there are more than 65 chapters of AoCC floating around the internet. The link, although extensive and awesome because it’s a pdf, only goes up to 64.
So if you have any part of the works we don’t have, or if you have anything to add to what we already have of AoCC, sharing would be very much appreciated! :)
two things: first, my favorite line of TSS is and always will be, "are you fucking the onion?" and second, in regards to whether or not Faberry will last post-TSS, I don't have enough information to confidently say. I feel as though we needed to see more of them. they had been together less than a year, and while they made it separately through huge stresses, those weren't as a couple, which is the real test.
What a classic line! TMF, a true genius. :)
It’s true—the majority of the crises Quinn and Rachel go through in the story are not together as a couple, but as separate parties. Both parties provide support, but they are not acting as a conventional unit. It does call into question whether or not they would be capable of overcoming obstacles as such. Interesting indeed.
... I actually called that out (Rachel's unreliability) in a review back when the story was still in progress. :P But Quinn, to anyone who has been through similar life experiences that would make them afraid to verbalize feelings, sends some very LOUD signals that she cares, even early in the story, or at least that's how I felt.
Well, yay for being an astute reader :)
I agree. Quinn’s cautious when something is important to her. The more she cares, the more cautious she is—essentially the polar opposite of Rachel’s reactions.
Bear in mind, Rachel is an unreliable narrator for most of the story (which isn't fully revealed until the middle), so don't trust her interpretative skills. Trust the observations of actual words/behavior. Also, the whole story is littered with examples of how much Q succeeds once she puts her mind to something, so. I think they're safe, in the long run. Will they still fight about things? Absolutely, but that's *normal*.
This is usually how I interpret Quinn and Rachel’s prospects for a future post-TSS, Anon, so I’m right there with you. They go through so freaking much to get where they end up. The question the others seem to be raising though is whether or not where they end up is actually a solid place to be.
I think it’s interesting, however, that you bring up Rachel being an unreliable narrator, and use that as a reason to justify looking outside of Rachel’s romanticized/idealized viewpoint to contextualize the relationship, rather than a reason to call the relationship into question. It’s also interesting that you mention Quinn’s inability to verbalize her feelings for Rachel in a conventional sense, but see that as more of a “tip of the iceberg” type of thing, rather than a red flag.
I can’t help but wonder if that reasoning is a direct result of TMF herself emphasizing the idea that “just because Quinn doesn’t say ‘I love you’ doesn’t mean she doesn’t it feel it tenfold” on her blog several million times. Keep in mind, this is information we as readers wouldn’t normally have if, say, TSS was a novel. Most authors don’t explain those otherwise unknown aspects of their characterizaton. And even if they do, a lot of people don’t know it until much later.
I suppose the next step would be to try to interpret Quinn’s behavior towards Rachel, ignoring all of that. Do her actions indicate that she is in this for the long hall with Rachel? Do they indicate that Quinn understands the necessity of both trust and communication in order to maintain a successful relationship with Rachel?
LOL. in TSS, Quinn and Rachel go through so much intentionally difficult and uncomfortable stuff in order to reach a place where they're seeing each other for the right reasons--and we think that's not enough? This = not understanding Quinn, imo, because that girl is so much farther on board with their relationship than she EVER admits out loud, especially in the last four or five chapters. (cont)
(I’m not brilliant at reading between the lines, so forgive me here.) I think they worked it out partially in therapy, obviously it was a good starting point for them both. But I feel they wouldn’t last. At least, not when the story ends. Personally, I feel they would break up because things were moving too fast for them both, and they needed to find themselves without eachother. If that even makes sense, lol? But as soon as they got ‘better’ (having to due with therapy) they were just straight up in each others business.
…So to make a long submit a bit shorter - I don’t see them working out, at the end of TSS. I’d give them a few months, then a couple of years of finding themselves -again- now they’re dealing with their issues, and then possibly figuring something out. That’s my feels on the ending of TSS anyway.
(But I love the ending still, I mean, still so happy it didn’t turn from broken & broken into BABIES EVERYWHERE)
I think that the reason everything was idealized/romanticized in TSS is because Rachel herself is an idealist. She believes in musicals, and happy endings, and spent her two first years of high school searching for a "leading man". Rachel has NEVER been particularly practical, and that's where Quinn comes in. Quinn didn't really know how to dream, and Rachel didn't know how to deal with her dreams not working out (or shifting, in this case). With each other, and therapy, they worked it out.
This is a good point.
But personally, do you think that Quinn and Rachel could maintain their relationship as presented in TSS?
Yes. Continued dependency. I think it might have even been stated in the fic that Quinn was her new addiction. Also, to me at least, it felt like Rachel's feelings were portrayed as very fairy-tell feeling, even amidst all the seriousness. She was romanticisng a situation that wasn't romantic, but unhealthy. I also think Quinn saw that. IMO, Quinn loved Rachel, at least as much as she could. Love is foreign to Quinn, so I think it scared her and she didn't really understand it. I dunno lol
I mean…it makes sense. haha.
I think perhaps—and this is my own personal bias—that I probably over romanticized the story myself. Because even though it makes perfect sense that Quinn would become Rachel’s new addiction and that Quinn realized this, but didn’t know what to do about it, I was like, “omg they are so broken, but so in love, but omg this story is perfect. They are never going to have a normal relationship, but wtf is normal anyway? Faberry Creys 5ever!”
But I totally understand where you are coming from and thank you for pointing out the flaws in my reasoning.
Continuation... Furthermore, they would need to find another significant other - one who doesn't know their emotional baggage and one who would not bring it out or try to control it either. Quinn needs to be in control, but that needs to break, and Rachel wouldn't ever allow that, no matter how much therapy she went to. And Rachel would need someone whom she wasn't so desperately seeking approval from. All, they broke eachother and saved each other, but they would not last. IMO.
So you feel that they would be better off with someone who acted as a sort of independent party—completely separate from their past—than each other.
A very valid point, considering that they do use the past to hurt/control each other. However, do you think either of them would ever truly be comfortable with someone else? I mean, it took a lot for them to open up to each other. Perhaps it would take even more to open up to a relative “stranger”. Or it could take less. It could go either way.
(Damn it, I published before I got the second part.)
